Bond
between city and Montana lands
Everyone
jumps straight to talking about to the new students of the school but are never
curious about the where and why questions when it comes to a new teacher, so
I’m here to share the story of one Ms. Shannon Redmond. Born and raised in
Colorado, she finished out her grade school years then went off to college to
study for school counseling. Shannon finished out her studies with counseling,
receiving a bachelor’s degree in it, but then realized she wasn’t as passionate
about it as she thought she would be.
After realizing she
wasn’t quite clicking with counseling, she got swept up into journalism, then
started putting herself out in the world by moving to Georgia to write for the
newspaper. Feeling like she had gotten everything out of the journalism job,
she decided to move to Tennessee for a change of scenery and had no other
choice but to apply for a newspaper writing job there, too.
Feelings of “missing”
started running through Shannon’s mind and she thought, “What the heck! Montana,
here I come.” Shannon packed up her life which came easily for her because all
of her family was here in Montana. She had no baggage such as children,
boyfriend, or pets, just a couple plants and a “go for it attitude.”
Shannon had no idea
what she was doing because she came here with no plan, no idea what to do or
where to move. No job and no plan. “It was exhilarating to a degree, to be free
like that,” smiles Ms. Redmond. She jumped at the opportunity to apply for a
counseling job at St. Ignatius High School. She loves working with children and
just so happened to see the job advertised online.
Shannon loves being
here in Montana and plans on staying here forever. She misses the friends, big
city activities, and old jobs here and there, but that is no competition to her
family and new job here in Montana. Spending her time painting, reading,
exploring the beauties in Montana, and as always, spending as much time with
her family as possible. Her plans are to be spending her time building a life
here in Montana. She hopes to head back to those previous big cities to stop in
to say “hello” to a few old friends, but her heart lies with her family here in
Montana.
