Super
Awesome Jammin’ Bonfire
After a devastating
defeat against Bigfork, players and fans alike attended a school-sponsored
bonfire to hang out after the game. Hosted by the school and set up by the
Student Council, and lead by President Brandon Wilber, the bonfire was a huge
success. Almost every volleyball player and a large number of the students came
to celebrate the homecoming volleyball game making it a great addition to the
already fun-filled week.
The first idea for the
bonfire was suggested by Brandon Wilber the week prior to the event itself.
Though he faced many roadblocks in his way, he managed to get it all organized
with the help of the Student Council and Mr. Sargent. At the time, burning in
city limits wasn’t allowed, so Brandon was forced to call the Fire Department
in order to get permission to have a controlled burn for the night. It was
eventually allowed by the Staff and Fire Department, and it was set up at the
softball field at around 9:30pm on Thursday night.
The bonfire was huge,
and needed a large amount of wood to sustain itself for the hour students would
be there. Lindsey Johnson happened to have a large amount of wood from dead
trees piled in her backyard. So, after school, William Powell loaded most of
the wood by himself into the back of a trailer and transported it to the
softball field.
Originally, the fire
was made for students and alumni to relax after the game, and a few alumni
actually did attend. Familiar faces such as Annie, Big Al, Chris Camel, and a
few others showed up. That’s all that was really expected, considering college
just started, and most alumni are too busy or too far away to come home.
Overall, Homecoming was
a huge success this year and all the classes were quite active in the
competitions. By no means was the bonfire a letdown, and hopefully they
continue it in the future.
